Harmony Week

Thursday 18 March 2021

Youth members and leaders from the Cub Unit visited the Masjid Taqwah in Bald Hills. This was our first visit to an Islamic mosque, and we approached them for a visit as part of celebrating Australia’s Harmony Week, which celebrates cultural diversity, inclusiveness, respect and sense of belonging for everyone.

The Cubs were warmly greeted by Imam Maulana Nizamul Haq Thanvi and Sharmi Ali. The Imam explained what was required to follow Islam and discussed the importance of everyone treating each other as their neighbour - with respect and kindness regardless of what their religion or culture may be.

One of the Cubs asked the important question asked by many faiths – “Who is your neighbour? What about a different country?” The Imam replied that everyone is our neighbour, including people in different countries, the person sitting next to you on the bus, or the students at your school. Harmony Week reminds us all to be tolerant and respectful of each other.

May we all apply this approach throughout the entire year.
